What Is Vibroacoustic Therapy?

Vibroacoustic Therapy, or VAT, is essentially a deep tissue low-frequency sound massage using audio waves in the range of 30Hz-120 Hz that are being transmitted to the body by embedded transducers in the bed. The sound gently permeates the cells allowing massage from inside as well as out. Because our bodies are approximately 60% water, water transmits sound and vibrations perfectly to our bodies. While floating in incredible comfort on the water waves your body is bathed in soothing sound and relaxing vibroacoustic vibrations.

Who Can Benefit From VAT?

VAT may be an independent therapy or incorporated with medical treatment and psychotherapy. As a natural energy booster and pain killer that is composed of varieties of frequencies therapy solutions that can be used as a self-management tool, it is beneficial to people with chronic or special needs, and any person with stress that wants to apply preventive and integrative wellness therapy.

VAT has been studied by researchers worldwide including the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIH reports the benefits of using VAT for Parkinson’s, PTSD, anxiety, physical injuries, brain function, COPD, Asthma and much more. Email our Music Therapist, Janna, at jcantu@epii.com for a list of research links.

Some benefits of VAT include:

  • Increase sleep quality
  • Reduce or eliminate effects of stress
  • Address PTSD / somatic ( physical) symptoms
  • Regulate the limbic system (emotional memories)
  • Activate the Relaxation Response
  • Reduce anxiety and muscle pain or spasms
  • Shorten healing periods/increase circulation

How Does VAT Affect the Body?

The mechanism of action of VAT is the oscillation of the human nervous system with frequencies and resonance characteristics of various muscle groups. VAT combines these resonance frequencies programs based on experimentally based effects, evaluated by patient reactions. Thousands of research hours have taught us how to use these programs to relax, stimulate and relieve pain.

What Should I Expect at My VAT Visit?

Clients can dress down to their comfort level or remove only their shoes. Once comfortable we will have you lay down on our liquid treatment table topped with a weighted or regular blanket. Then a team member will choose the frequencies and music to address the issues indicated and turn on the equipment.

You will begin to feel the gentle vibrational frequencies through the water mattress and hear the soothing music through the headset. The Team member will then leave you in the room to enjoy your session for 30-60 minutes. It usually takes about 20 minutes for the relaxation response to begin in the body.

Clients report feeling many pleasant sensations. Abstract thinking slows and body and mind awareness expands. Some people experience a dream-like, or deep meditative state. Others fall asleep, report seeing colors, experience clarity and new insight and feel relief of pain or symptoms.

When the session is over, the team member will return to the room to gently turndown the vibrational frequencies and music.

FAQ

Can I use the VAT bed if I am not an Innova patient?

Absolutely! We welcome you to try this amazing technology!

Can VAT be harmful?

NO. Over 30 years of research and treatment feedback from therapists and their clients (people who have chronic diseases) show no harm treating with Olaf Skille’s Vibroacoustic therapy in the range of 30Hz-120Hz, low or controlled volume.

What are Transducers?

Transducers produce vibrations in the table that are incredibly accurate and smooth. The transducers are highly reliable and produce very little heat. They are capable of producing accurate vibration from below 5 to over 1000 Hz.as well as sound well over 20 kHz. The energy is delivered so cleanly that the brain interprets the stimulus as Sound, not ShakingTM.

Who would be incompatible with VAT?

Those with Pacemakers, very low blood pressure, a DVT or a bleeding disorder, a recent surgery (unless medically approved) and those who have experienced a recent psychotic episode (unless medically approved) should not have VAT done.

What is the setting of VAT?

VAT is done in a private, secure and calm room at Innova Recovery.

When is VAT available?

VAT is available during our regular business hours Monday through Friday by appointment only.
