Seeking Safety

Finding Safety and Relief to Heal

Seeking Safety is an excellent program offered by Innova Recovery that can help women find relief from substance use, pains from their past traumas, and symptoms of PTSD.

What is Seeking Safety?

Seeking Safety for Women is a present-focused and evidence-based form of therapy that aims to help women recover from substance abuse and trauma. It can be conducted with either individuals or groups of varying sizes over several sessions as required by the patient or patients.

Seeking Safety is an excellent program for women because it does not need details or explanations of a person’s traumatic experiences. Women will be able to find relief and thus be able to heal with the twenty-five topics that comprise Seeking Safety.

Key Principles of Seeking Safety

Seeking Safety is built upon the five following principles:

Safety is the Goal

Seeking Safety was devised to help women be free from any dangerous or self-destructive behaviors as a result of trauma, symptoms of PTSD, or other experiences.

Integrated Treatment

A key feature of Seeking Safety is the dual treatment of substance use and PTSD. This will help women understand the connection between the two conditions and how they can be addressed.

Focus on Ideals

Instead of going over past events or discussing details of a person’s trauma, Seeking Safety places importance on rebuilding a client’s trust and belief in values and virtues, including honesty, respect, and self-care.

The Four Content Areas

Therapists use four approaches to help clients reach the best outcome during sessions. These are behavioral, interpersonal, cognitive, and case management.

The Therapist’s Processes

Seeking Safety relies on the therapist’s ability and process to help a client. These include their listening ability, relational skills, compassion,  as well as their drive to empower and encourage the client.

The 25 Topics of Seeking Safety

Seeking Safety consists of twenty-five different topics that a therapist can conduct at any time and as much or as few as they feel is necessary to help a client. These topics also help teach coping skills.
